Scaled Composites to Hold Career Fair in April

March 29, 2012 – With several high-profile projects like Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo and the Stratolaunch Carrier in progress, Scaled Composites is in need of employees. To help bolster recruiting efforts, Scaled will conduct an open house/career fair on April 21 at its headquarters in Mojave, California, at which it hopes to attract engineers, technicians, and others to help usher in the era of commercial space travel.

“If you’re interested in working in the private space industry, there’s no better place than Mojave right now,” said project and flight test engineer Elliot Seguin.

Scaled will open its hangar doors from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to give job seekers of all backgrounds the chance to talk to employees and see some of the unique aircraft it creates. Qualified applicants should come prepared to talk one-on-one with Scaled employees.

Seguin noted late last year that Scaled Composites is fundamentally a homebuilders’ company and that nearly half of its engineers have aircraft projects completed or in progress. More than two-thirds of them are also pilots, and most of them are EAA members. It’s not surprising, therefore, that EAAers represent the company’s premier hiring pool. “Having someone who has gone through a building process, be it wood, tube, and fabric, or composites, is a definite plus,” Seguin said.

In its announcement for the open house/career day, Scaled said, “This is a chance for us to get to know you, for you to show us what you are passionate about, and for us to learn how you might fit into our company. Fly or drive out with a resume, examples of your work, bottled water, sun protection, and be ready to find out what it means to have ‘FUN’ at work.”

Here are the job categories Scaled mentions:

  • Aerodynamicist
  • Avionics Engineer
  • Composite Fabricator
  • Composite Structural Analyst
  • Composites Design Engineer
  • Data Analyst Engineer
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Manufacturing Engineer
  • Materials and Process Engineer
  • Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Program Business Manager (PBM)
  • Program Business Analyst (PBA)
  • Domain/Software Administrator (IT)

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP via e-mail, with an attached resume and using the subject line “Career Day.”
